2007 Christmas

Some people show pictures of there Christmas trees with a few gifts underneath. This 7 foot tree has enough gifts piled around it for 17 people.

Off on Tuesday

For some reason I got scheduled to be off tomorrow. I plan on going fishing in Farmington with A guy at work that has off as well. The weather should be nice.

No Mames 5, The Drifters 7

Tonight our dart team won 5 games against The Drifters and lost 7. I think we did pretty good considering our abilities. We also had fun.

I got a Hat Trick and averaged for the nigh 1.86 MPR (Marks Per Round). My overall MPR for this season is at 2.01.

Later I played Cricket against Lonnie and didn't just win him but won him by 200 points. The maximum. Lonnie is a good dart thrower. Next week our team shoots agaist Lonnie's team.

Lonnie recommended that I should compete in some luck of the draw tournaments. Lonnie has won some money playing in tournaments. He played in a tournament in Wisconsin and won $300.

He told me that there is a Friday Night "Luck of the Draw" Tournament with a "Mystery Out" bonus every Friday night on Concord in South St Paul. The Mystery Out prize given to the player(s) who outs on the random mystery number.

I'll have to get it into my Friday night schedule. The next few Fridays are pretty busy.

Three Rainbows on one day in Farmington Vermillion River.

Today I went trout fishing in Farmington. I mainly used one type of fly. The Woolly Bugger fly. I started just before 8 am.

I had caught the first one in a part of the stream that there were bubbles in the water. I would have liked to keep it but I didn't have anything to put it in. I put it back into the water. After I lost my leader I decided to go back to the car and change reels. I grabbed some bags in case I caught another one. I went to the same spot and an about 15 minutes later I caught my second trout. This was about 9 am. I bagged the trout and put it into the ice cooler in my car.

I went down by the trestle bridge in the park. I fished up stream from someone or a while. He had asked me if I had caught any. I told him that I had caught two so far and that I had never caught any under this bridge. I figure I try it like always I give it a try. It's a nice location except for the low power lines.

I said that I had caught the two deeper in the park. He left by the way that I had come in to the park.

I went to the spot under the power lines where he had no luck and then I caught my third rainbow.

I think that my success was better earlier in the morning. As it got closer to noon I had less success. I have heard that trout feed more actively in the early morning and the lat evening. I have to try it again either earlier in the morning or later in the evening.

Tom Loses Challenge.

Tom M. "Tim" decided to challenge one of the stores that he could sell more extended warranties that the store. I guess he lost and here is is punishment. He delivered Divani's subs to our desks.

Bowling on The Bye

Tonight our dart team had a bye and so we went bowling.

FREE Beer on Friday, 5-6pm

Just came back from taking our allocation of free beer at McDivots -- after spending the afternoon scouting new fly fishing spots in the area. At one point, I felt like I was lost in a gulley in Montana on some backwater dirt road -- not to be connected to a cell tower -- yet only 30 miles from home!

Visit the munitions walls on UMore lands in Rosemount.

A stop in the Cannon River Winery brightened the journey. We loaded up with a case of wine, toured the local river condos for sale and headed back to home -- only to be detoured by FREE Beer from 5-6 pm at McDivots. We've decided this will be our weekly weekend kick-off! Join us...

The turkey in our neighborhood

Titanic backwards now that is just sick!

Today I was talking to a customer that was telling me that the Titanic number on the Hull was 909 and backward he said that it read Kill the pope. I Googled the words "Titanic backwards" and found this website: http://www.classicfilmpreview.com/backwards-movies/

It is a website that tells you what you would get if you would play many classic movies backwards.

This is what you get when you play the movie Titanic backwards, "Titanic backwards is the story of an enormous iron ship that surges up from the vast depths of the ocean in order to save a large number of people who are inexplicably, and somewhat foolishly, floundering in the water near an iceberg. It then takes them back to Southampton."

Goldielock N 3 Dirty VS No Mames

Tonight we played against the team named Goldielocks N 3 Dirty, They are a good team. We lost won 2 and lost 10. I shot an average for the night of 2.25 MPR (Marks Per Round). This would bring my average for the season to 2.04 MPR.

I won both our winning games and got another Hat Trick (3 Bulls with 3 darts in one round).

Here for Beer vs No Mames

Last night our dart team went 6 wins and 6 losses.

I shot an average for the night of 1.97. Pretty good considering I had some really bad games. I guess the few game that I had shot around a 2.5 marks per round help bring it up close to my season average.

Fundraiser and Dart Tournament

Last night I competed in a luck of the dart tournament at Drakula's Pub. I drew a guy I know who's name is Caveman. Lonnie drew Julie P. and Dominic drew someone named Scott.

I threw a 9 mark round and a couple of Hat Tricks (three Bulls eye with three darts).

Caveman and I went undefeated and took first place.

The Democrat Retreat Plan

Here is an e-mail I received today:

You've read recently about Nancy Pelosi and John Murtha's attempts to micromanage the Iraq war from the U.S. House. Well, not to be outdone, the Democrats in the U.S. Senate are taking up a resolution today that would force President Bush to withdraw our troops from Iraq whether we have reached our goals or not.

That's a dangerous move, and it's not just Republicans who think so. Two years ago, Senator Hillary Clinton said, "I don't think we should be setting a deadline ... that just gives a green light to the insurgents and the terrorists, that if they just wait us out they can basically have the country." Just two months ago, she reaffirmed her position: "I'm not going to support a specific deadline." Last week, Democrat Senator Evan Bayh said "I, for example, am not in support of circling a date on a calendar and saying, 'No matter what, we're out on that date.'" Democrat Senator Jim Webb agrees: "Anyone who tells you we can set a timetable for withdrawal doesn't understand war."

The experts also say that setting a deadline is a recipe for failure. The government's most recent National Intelligence Estimate on Iraq concluded that "If Coalition forces were withdrawn ... we judge that this almost certainly would lead to a significant increase in the scale and scope of sectarian conflict in Iraq." Our intelligence experts added, "If such a rapid withdrawal were to take place, we judge that the ISF [Iraqi Security Forces] would be unlikely to survive."

No one wants our brave men and women in uniform to come home as much as President Bush.

But to set a deadline for withdrawal with no consideration of the situation on the ground is a recipe for disaster. It would send the signal to the terrorists in Iraq that all they have to do is wait us out, and then sweep in when we retreat. It would send a signal to our enemies worldwide that we are not serious about the War on Terror. And it would send a signal to our troops that their efforts don't matter.

There is a way to bring our men and women home, and that is to help them achieve their goals. That's why the President is beefing up security in Baghdad, changing the way we interact and train Iraqi troops, and making sure the Iraqi government lives up to its responsibilities. It is these steps that will lead to an end to the war, not on the terrorists' terms, but on our terms.

Contact your Senators today. Tell them to oppose the Democrats' attempt to micromanage the war. Tell them that we cannot leave Iraq in the hands of terrorists.

Thank you.

Sincerely,Robert M. (Mike) Duncan Chairman, Republican National Committee

Ignoring Errors of Logic in Global Warming Debate

Just as Galileo and Einstein transcended the "consensus" of their day, so too will a growing body of scientific evidence eventually vindicate non-alarmist views on global warming, says Fred Singer, adjunct scholar with the National Center for Policy Analysis, professor emeritus of Environmental Science at the University of Virginia and president of the Science and Environmental Policy Project.

A new book co-authored by Singer and Dennis Avery entitled, "Unstoppable Global Warming: Every 1500 Years," says much of the discussion on global warming has ignored key points. For example:

  • A 1997 survey of U.S. state climatologists found that 90 percent agreed with the statement that "scientific evidence indicates variations in global temperature are likely to be naturally occurring and cyclical over very long periods of time.
  • One of the extraterrestrial factors frequently overlooked in global warming science is the sun itself; although it was thought at one time to be a "constant star," the sun in fact has periods of variability that impact the earth's climate.
  • Satellite and high-altitude weather balloon observations show that -- contrary to what has been widely reported -- the lower atmosphere is not trapping lots of additional heat as a result of higher CO2 concentrations.
"The earth continually warms and cools," Singer writes in the book. "The cycle is undeniable, ancient, often abrupt and global. It is also unstoppable. Isotopes in the ice and sediment cores, ancient tree rings and stalagmites tell us it is linked to small changes in the irradiance of the sun."

The Drifters Vs No Mames

Tonight our dart team won 4 and lost 8 games vs The Drifters.

I threw pretty good over my average and am up to a 1.96 MPR (Marks Per Round).

Tom H threw for us tonight. He had a great time and is looking forwad to playing with us again.

Phil and I won a game on just sheer points. I had him hit the 17s over and over again to get the point up and I worked on closing the numbers. Since we won the game that strategy worked pretty well. The very next game they made sure to close the 17s early. I would've matter whether it was the 17s 16s or what ever the play works well.

Here's how it worked. We had to shooting against the stronger dart thrower and their weaker dart thrower.

Phil, that was shooting before the the opposing team's strong player would just shoot any number that can have points accumulate. In this case the 17s. The stronger player (according to the correct Cricket strategy) should do nothing but try to get ahead again in points. As long as the our team was ahead in points, then me the other person that was shooting before the weaker player would then concentrate on hitting and closing the numbers. This in effect takes the stronger player on the other team out of the game.

Graffiti Occurs in Rosemount

This morning when I took Dixie out for her morning business, I looked over to the Methodist Church garage and saw this. I wonder if these is a result of "Gangs in Rosemount"???

Windows Vista Operating system

Cliff and Zoaunne came over tonight and had dinner with us. I cooked some steaks on the grill.

While Zoey and Z were working on Carina's shower invitations, Cliff left and went to a friend's house to help him get his computer working. As per a prior post on this blog, he bought a new computer with Windows Vista OS.

His friend helped him load the required patches to get the computer programs he likes to run working. When Cliff came back a couple of hours later he told me that his friend got those programs working. I'm glad it's working good for him.

A Day off of work.

This new scheduling system had scheduled me today as my day off instead of Friday. I didn't check the schedule on Friday and came into work today. Of course, right now I'm at home writing this post.

No Mames Vs The High Flyers

Tonight we played against the High Flyer's, another great team. I finally won my first game...got a Hat Trick (three Bull-eyes in one round) and shot a 2.43 marks per round.

Tom didn't show and we had Jill A. shoot for us. Later I found out that Tom was dealing with an emergency situation at the hospital. I'm sure I'll find out about that tomorrow.

Windows Vista Operating system

Today Z and I went over to Zoaunne and Cliff's home to help them get their computer working correctly. It seems that some of their programs just don't work right on the new Windows Vista operating system.

I'm not sure if it is their program or the firewall settings.

I did a little research to find out that there are some programs that are having troubles running on the new Windows Vista Platform.

Cindy Johnson 50th Birthday - At work

This morning it was Cindy's birthday. Julie D. brought in this chair for her. They also brought in Depends undergarments and also Cindy received a bouquet of Prunes that were placed on rose stems. Tom H placed the fake turds under Cindy's new portable toilet (throne).

Storm Window Frame

Today I decided to repair a storm window that fell apart because of dry rot. Yesterday I bought an eight foot length of a 2 X 6 from Home Depot. This morning I cut it to proper length. I knew that it would be 1/4" too thick so I used a router and a hand planer to get it to the proper thickness.

This was the first time I ever used a router so I experimented on a 2x4 to see if it was set at the proper depth and how it would work. The top photo is the piece of 2x4 I used to test the router. The lower photo is the the piece of wood to the proper thickness next to the rotted piece on the left. I feel the best way to use the router was to cut straight lines at the correct depth for the length of the board. I would cut 5 slots and then hand plane what was left. Any odd raised portions could be then chiseled off. The hand plane is best at shaving longer lengths of wood.

I had to cross cut the board. The original piece is cut at an angle on both edges. I got the first cut correct. Due to me only measuring once and not twice, I messed up on the angle of the second cross cut. So instead of the cross section looking something like /__/ it looks like /__\.

Next time, I'll have to remember to measure twice and cut only once. Meaning I'll have to watch to make sure I'm cutting it correctly.

Fortunately, I still had the second half of the 8 foot board and cut another 39-3/4" piece of wood and routed and planed the piece down to the proper 1-1/8" thickness. I work on the crosscutting on another day.

After I get the crosscutting angle correct then I'll have to work on the tenon joints on the ends. Then I'll have to get edging shaved for the window pane to sit on it. After that I'll have to get it into the bottom of the frame.

Broken Storm Window

The above photo is the broken storm window and the piece of wood that I will be using to repair it.
Here is a photo of the one of the sides of the frame that shows whats left of the mortise and tenon joint. When I get to that point I'll have to get that piece of the frame cleaned out so the new piece can go into the mortise.

Kings Gambit Accepted

Last night I went over a new chess opening with the chess club. We went over the Kings Gambit Declined opening. I found a good example of it and we went over it move by move. A couple of the kids didn't like it. I could understand their feelings but I know sometime in the life of playing chess they will come across someone who will play it against them and knowing of a trap is the first step in avoiding or overcoming it.

Next week will go over Bobby Fisher's Bust the the Kings Gambit.

No Mames Vs Domination

Tonight our dart team, No Mames plays against Domination. We LOST ALL 12 GAMES!.

St Thomas Aquinas's Annual Festival

Here are two photos of the St Thomas Aquinas's Annual Festival. The top one is Myrna and Grandma and the lower one is Zena and Zoaunne.

Here we Go Again... Not with Jessie Ventura but with Al Franken!!!

I wonder if Franken is going to fool Minnesotans into thinking that he can be taken seriously.

According to the GOP a document (located at: http://www.mngop.com/RPM%20Research%20Briefing%20-The%20Facts%20About%20Al%20Franken.pdf), Al Franken wouldn't be too diplomatic.

Non Binding????

How would you feel as a seller of a house, if the buyer gave you a non-binding purchase agreement?

Hey, I'll pay for that restaurant bill with a no binding credit card.

That just doesn't work in the real world. We need to put real people in congress that are willing to stick their guns and make a decision!!!

Rudy Giuliani on Iraq War Non-binding Resoultions

Transcript:

GIULIANI: I mean, you can look at the practical and common sense conclusion on that anyway you want. But there's something more important than that. We have a right of free speech in this country and we elect people to make decisions. Here's what I would prefer to see them do, though, if you ask me what's my view on that. The nonbinding resolution thing gets me more than are you for it or against it. I have tremendous respect for the people who feel that we either made a mistake going to war, who voted against the war, who now have come to the conclusion, changed their minds, they have every right to that, that it's wrong, you should, in a dynamic situation, keep questioning. What I don't like is the idea of a nonbinding resolution.

KING: Because?

GIULIANI: Because there's no decision.

KING: But it's a statement.

GIULIANI: Yes, but that's what you do. That's what Tim Russert does and that's what Rush Limbaugh does. That's what you guys do, you make comments. We pay them to make decisions, not just to make comments. We pay them to decide. The United States Congress does declarations, the war.

KING: So if you feel that way, withhold funds and that's the way you feel?

GIULIANI: The ones I think have a better understanding of what their responsibility is and are willing to take a risk are the ones who are saying we've got to hold back the funds, we've got to vote against the war or we're for the war. And maybe it's because I ran a government and I tend to be a decisive person. I like decisions. And I think one of the things wrong with Washington is they don't want to make tough decisions anymore. Nonbinding resolution about Iraq, no decision on immigration, no decision on Social Security reform, no decision on what to do about energy independence, no decision. You know why that happens? Because it's unpopular.

Team Hillary's attempt to out-weasel John Kerry's legendary "I actually did vote for the $87 billion before I voted against it" continues in earnest.

I called it!!! See my post from Monday, January 22, 2007 at: http://zenashusband.blogspot.com/2007/01/hillary-clinton-for-president-you-got.html

I just saw this article in Yahoo written by Arianna Huffington. at: http://news.yahoo.com/s/huffpost/20070213/cm_huffpost/041155

Hillary is now trying find a way out of her voting for the war!!! You can't clear here record of votes. Her actions speak louder than words. She can't be trusted.

Yesterday's New York Times reported that "Mrs. Clinton's advisers do not relish the idea of someone bringing up her 2002 Senate vote [on Iraq] at every campaign stop."

I would like her and here advisers to be very uncomfortable about her vote in 2002.

3 Dirty Old Men and Goldielocks

Last night our team played against the 3 Dirty Old Men and Goldielocks. Their team was the Pheasant Pluckers last season. We won 1 and lost 11 games.

I threw a 2.0. For some reason our match wasn't reported on the AAA Pool & Darts website.

Tommy wasn't able to show because he was delayed at a meeting for his military. He told me that he might be deployed in about a year.

Darts tonight

Tonight is the first night of the spring dart league. Our team No Mames goes against
Goldilocks N 3 Dirty. At this point I don't know the caliber of the team we are playing against.

Only Hurts my Eyes a Little!

Today Z and I rented this Walmart documentary from Netflix. The next two posts are spoof adds from the movie. These are pretty funny!

Walmart - What ever happened to...

I like the way the actor has a warm smirk when he says "He shot himself."

Dart League No Mames

Our team name will be "No Mames" which is a Spanish slang term.

We'll have Phil B, Tom H., Roxie and me. With Deb C being a substitute player. We should be pretty good and win more games then last season.

We start on Sunday February 11th. So far according to Lonnie, the league organizer, there are seven teams in our league with each team having four people.

Our schedule is posted on-line at: http://www.aaapoolndarts.com/PDFs/SCW26.PDF

Vacation driveway shoveler caper.

I finally found out who shoveled our driveway when we went on vacation in January. It was Adam my next door neighbor.

We've some great neighbors!

Woody from Toy Story Visits Northern Tool + Equipment

The character from Toy Story visited NTE Saturday and even sat in to take some orders. Our call center went a Buz when he sat down.
It looks like Woody is a Chicago Fan!

Winter Car Wash

This morning I washed and waxed my car. Washing a car in Minnesota in the winter can be a bit tricky. Especially if the car is normally parked outdoors. If you wash you car on a cold day and leave it outdoors your doors and locks will freeze up. If you wash your car on a mild day, the water from melted puddles of snow and slush will spray onto your car from others cars.

We only have a one car garage for our house so in the winter the only opportunity to wash my car is on my Friday off. I washed my warmed up car at the car wash when it was just below 30 degrees and then drove it right into the garage. The blower at those auto wash places never seem to get the car dry enough. Once the car is in the garage I need to wipe the car down. I gave the car's finish a good wax with some Meguiar's Gold Class paste wax. I didn't have to apply that much to the surface of the car. I know this Meguiar's wax in this can I bought will last me a long time.

Senators Clinton and Obama sitting on their hands!!!

According to the AP "Clinton remains in favor of universal health care and has made it a central theme of her presidential bid." and Democratic Senator Barack Obama said Thursday after jumping into the 2008 presidential race, "Every American should have health care coverage within six years"

As Senators aren't they suppose to be putting through bills like Universal Health Care?

Senator Hillary Clinton is on the Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions, and the Special Committee on Aging along with a Democratic majority in the Senate and a Democratic majority in the House of Representatives get Universal Health Care passed into law. Even if a George W. Bush, a "Very Lame Duck President", as a Fox News Correspondent has reported, Veto's the bill the bill it could still get passed by Congress by overriding the presidential veto.

Isn't it the Job of a Senator to put forth bills? Why would Clinton and Obama delay Universal Health Care for two years. Don't they care about the people who are needing Universal Health Care Today?

Two years delay could be a live sentence for someone without insurance. If they really cared they would be working and putting forth their solutions on the table for review by the appropriate committees and for a vote by Congress as soon as possible!

Who are they serving? The people? Not a chance. This only proves that they don't care for the people they claim to serve. They only care about their own political ambitions.

Both Clinton and Obama aren't worthy to be president of the the United States of America.

Now I'm not in favor for Universal Health Care, but them delaying opportunity shows how these two worthless Senators (either Senator Hillary Clinton or Senator Barack Obama), would be as President of the United States.

100TH Post on this Blog!!

This is the 100th Post ion my Blog!
To Infinity and Beyond!

Hillary Clinton for President? You got to be kidding!!!

Hillary Clinton: Wrong person for the Presidency.

According to CBS Broadcasting, Clinton said. "And I would like to get back to building on what works … recommending the kind of bold, but practical changes -- like universal health care, like energy independence -- that were not possible in the first Clinton administration."

The Clintons had eight years when Bill Clinton was President and since January 2001 Hillary had opportunities to introduce bills that implement these "Bold, but practical changes." She is on the Committee on Environment and Public Works, the Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions, and the Special Committee on Aging and still hasn't done anything to get universal health care and energy independence forward as law.

It would be a sorry state of the union if she won. She didn't have the courage to leave her philandering husband. She could have left him at any time. It wasn't as if she was one of those poor women with no means for escape, she allegedly to defend, that has a husband that sluts around, comes home drunk and abuses them.

According to Wikipedia, "...as a member of the United States Senate Committee on Armed Services she was in the know and supported and voted for the Iraq War Resolution popular names for the Authorization for Use of Military Force Against Iraq Resolution of 2002. In February 2005 she stated that much of Iraq was functioning well, elections in Iraq had succeeded, and that the insurgency there was failing. In July 2005 she co-introduced legislation to increase the size of the regular United States Army by 80,000 soldiers."

And the in January 2007 interview with Katie Couric, Hillary said, "Unfortunately, the fact is he is carrying out the policy. He already had in motion the movement of troops into Iraq," Clinton said. "What we're trying to do is send a bipartisan message, if possible, that we disapprove of this escalation, that we want to begin a phased redeployment that I have called for more than a year and a half -- that we want to get our troops home as soon as possible." Did she change her position the second after she voted for 80,000 more soldiers in July 2005?

We all want our troops home. We also want the job done right. We don't want the balance of power upset and evil forces to win the Middle East. If we leave the area too soon Osama Bin Laden and al-Qaeda will gladly move in and take the oil revenues to advance their evil movement. I think it would be a good idea to maintain a foothold of troops in the Middle East in the long term.

Hillary Clinton isn't the right person for the presidency. The Clintons have always allow themselves to be blown by the winds of the polls. They have proven that they aren't leaders. Leadership requires direction, initiative, and foresight. Hillary doesn't have the ability to look at the polls and see what in store in the future. The Clinton administration, which Hillary was a part of, wasn't able to foresee the force al-Qaeda was and their planning for the World Trade Center bombing in 1993 and Hillary wouldn't be able to foresee the next great evil that awaits to destroy this great country.

Lake Elmo Luck of the Draw Dart Tournament.

Tonight we had the Dart League Award Ceremony and Dart Tournament. I was paired with Nicole and we lost in the second round of the double elimination tournament.

Nicole will be throwing with Dominic for the spring season. So it should be Phil, Bart and I for the guys and hopefully Heidi, Dominic's wife, will be able to throw for us as well. She will have to get a sitter for their child so she can throw on our team. The spring league will be at Drak's pub again and is scheduled to start the Sunday after Superbowl Sunday.

Leaky PT

When we got back to my parents house after the cruise. My Dad informed me that the PT Cruiser leaked some antifreeze on his driveway. He took the liberty of having if fixed for me. I really appreciate that!!

We have some great neighbors

I had arranged to have by brother and one of my nephews come down and shovel my driveway and sidewalk while we were on vacation. It had snowed about 7 inches here in Rosemount last Sunday and when my brother came to shovel the driveway it had already been cleaned off!

I wasn't expecting that!! Whoever did it, I would really like to thank them!

I'll have to do some investigating on this...

Waiting at Miami International Airport

The end of vacation always ends waiting at the airport.

We got up late yesterday. Yesterday afternoon Z and I lounged by the pool. We did a little packing and then we went and played some Bingo. Z and I won at Bingo and won $130. Cliff won the $5000 Bingo jackpot. Above, the photo shows Cliff with his winnings!!!

Z has a bad cold. Z tried to make it through dinner but her cold was hitting her hard. She was just miserable.

We took advantage of Independent Debarkation by choosing to carry our own bags off. We zipped on through Customs. The Customs agent commented that he really liked our new passports with the computer chip. All he had to do was zip it through the reader and we were on our way! Slick!

Cozumel Mexico

Today we went to Cozumel, Mexico. Zoaunne was a "shopping monster". She was buying t-shirts and all sorts of trinkets. Zena and I only bought some shot glasses and a couple of baskets.

George Town, Grand Cayman

Nestled in the calm, turquoise waters of the western Caribbean, lies the peaceful British Overseas Territory known as the Cayman Islands. Consisting of three islands just 480 miles south of Miami, Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac, and Little Cayman remain our little piece of paradise. Blessed with sun-kissed beaches and waters teaming with fish flecked with gold, the Cayman Islands offers some of the best diving and snorkeling in the world.

There are four things that you can do in Grand Cayman.

Some people might say that seeing the Turtle Farm is one of them, but I disagree. The turtle farm isn't that special.

OK, here are the four things:
  1. You can visit Seven Mile Beach ... which is really only 5 miles long.
  2. You can pet the sting rays at Sting Ray City. I hear that the number of people petting the sting rays have really dropped since the Crocodile Hunter got killed by a sting ray. Zoey and Cliff went to pet stingrays.
  3. You can go to Hell. Z and I went on a tour and the Town of Hell was on the stops. Z and I took some photos of the hellish landscape then bought some post cards to mail from the post office there in Hell. The bottom photo is of Zena in front of the hellish landscape.
  4. The last thing you can do in the Cayman Island is open an offshore bank account.
Grand Cayman now has more than 259 licensed banks, only a handful are full-service retail banks providing customer banking services as visitors know it.

Z and I hung out with John and Anne (from New York). We did the tour of the island including Hell, and the Turtle Farm.

Ochos Rios Jamica

Today our ship landed in Ocho Rios, Jamaica. We first shopped at Island Village. We bought hand made bracelets and t-shirts. Cliff got a 20-minute back massage for $20. He said that it really helped his back.

Those women with me are are some "Hot Jamaican Mamas" who would pose for photos for tips.

We then went to what is now called the Taj Mahal. It's a small shopping area were there are a lot of Jewelry stores and local knickknack stores. I recognized it as being the place where Z and I bought Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee the last time we were in Jamaica. We found a store and bought three pounds. Zena negotiated them down from $75 for three pounds down to $55. I had also bought a Cuban Cigar to smoke (our tradition) the last night of the cruise.

We then wandered about and were price shopping for watches. We wondered into Diamonds International. We sat down at the counter and had them show me some watches. I had picked out a Citizen Chronograph watch with two alarms. It listed at the store for $490. We negotiated them down to $210.

All the while we were in the watch store, Cliff and Zoey were trying to radio us because they had a taxi waiting for us. Zoey had found us and said that Cliff had a taxi held to see the falls. Cliff and Zoey wanted to see the Dunns River Falls. I hadn't finished paying for my purchase and the sales manager started to show Z some rings.

We hopped into the cab and they took us to the "Back Entrance" of the Falls. Cliff and Zoey wanted to take some photos, so they proceeded up a hill and deposited $2 into a rusty can and proceeded through the fence to take photos. Z and I decided to stay back at the cab. Local vendors came up to our cab and pressed their faces into the window peering in at us -- then they opened the door and started to climb in to show us their wares. They offered Zena some necklaces. She bought one.

We went back to our ship to relax.

First couple days at sea

Today we visited Labadee, a small island off Haiti. To our surprise, it was quite beautiful and not full of people harassing you to buy something. The beach areas were very pretty. It took very little time to walk from one side of the island to the other. Tonight we were the last people out of the dining room as we were having so much fun with our waiter. Now, "shelling the prawn" has a whole new meaning. Ask us later...

More later...

Today was a day at sea.

Today was a day at sea. We met some people from New York and Scotland. They are our evening dining companions. We are having a great time getting to know them.

We used the hot tub, watched movies, explored the shops on board, Zoaunne was a judge in a Belly Flop contest that Cliff competed in. He took 2nd Place -- should have been first as the belly flop was the best, yet his early performance lacked a little splash.

Zoaunne won on the cover-all bingo. The prize for that game was an upgrade to a suite with an outdoor balcony on the top floor. It turned out to be a tie, so they did a tie breaker. The tie breaker included calling another ball and whoever had it on their winning card was the ultimate winner. That person won the upgrade -- not Zoaunne -- and all Zoey got was a consolation prize -- a 50¢ key tag!!! Shameful! She should have gotten something much better that THAT!

Cloud Nine Bar

Here Cliff, Zoaunne, Zena and I are at the Cloud Nine bar at the top of the Voyager of the Seas. We were suppose to meet Hamed, Muriel and Abraham, a family who we met on the plane, for drinks in the hot tub but we just didn't make it there. The view from this bar was breathtaking.
The Voyager of the Seas is a beautiful ship. I'll be adding more posts with photos.

Last day of work before Z and I go on vacation.

Z and I are going on a Caribbean cruise.

We are leaving on Saturday. We are going on the ship named Voyager of the Seas. We will be visiting Miami, Florida; Labadee, Haiti; Ocho Rios, Jamaica; George Town, Grand Cayman; and Cozumel, Mexico and then back to Miami, Florida.

Z and I will be traveling with Zoaunne and Cliff. We have booked adjoining interior cabins that have a a bowed window view with a seat overlooking the Royal Promenade.

Although we may not leave our phone on because the international phone usage charges are as high as $2 per minute, we will have our phone with us to check voice mail and text messages. E-mail should be the easiest way for communicating with us. We are planning on posting to this Blog from the Internet cafe on the ship.

Last night we did some packing. I think we will be able to do it with only three bags. Zoey and Cliff are looking at hauling six bags!

Snow Removal Services

After work I did a little calling on snow removal for when we are on vacation or when my back is hurting.

One company, Specialty Snow Removal, I talked to a Mike Olson. He is a Pastor for a church in Eagan. He was very friendly.

His phone number is 651-454-1137

Dart League Move?

Lonnie told me Sunday night that our Jaycee dart league may be moving to close to Hudson WI. That would be close to a 25 mile drive. I'm not willing to drive that far!

I have been looking for a new league incase the move happens. There are two - 2 person cricket leagues in Apple Valley on Wednesday nights a Bogarts and Rascals. I looked at the statistics for those two leagues and with my average of 2.00 MPR (Marks/Round), I would fit in the top third of of the players in those leagues.

Even if they have started by the end of the month, I could visit the bars durring the dart league and let them know that I'm willing to join a team. Periodically, durring a season peoples piorities change, people move or whatever and a spot may open up.

If we don't move Tom "Bart" would replace Kevin on our team.

No Dart Love 3, Here for Beer 9

Tonight we played against Here for Beer. Dominic B and another guy that I didn't knew substituted for Misty and Kristi C.

Dominic Played on our team last year he pretty good. He averages around 2.4 MPR (Marks per Round).

I shot pretty well I averaged 2.43 MPR.

I'll end the fall dart season with a 1.99 MPR average.

Mark R showed up and he and I threw a couple of games. Lonnie was good enough to help Mark in improving is throwing skills.

Wet Noodle VS Vice

At work today Bob W. was thinking about leaving for Costa Rico and when I was leaving work he said put your hand in the vice and motioned for a handshake. I shook his hand and wished him well for his trip.

I told him and Mario about Josh, Amy's son (Amy is Zena's brother's, Clark's girlfriend). During Christmas morning at Joey and Cliff's house. Josh is a young man and when we shook hands I noticed he was inexperienced in the ways of the hand shake. I told Bob and Mario that I instructed Josh the way my Dad taught me on how to do the firm handshake.

It is important for men to give a firm handshake to another man. When a man shakes a woman's hand he should be careful in not crushing her hand and be particularly careful when she does the fingertip and thumb shake.

People do judge others on the quality of the handshake and everyone should learn to do it well.

Changing of My Blog Template

Tonight I decided to change the template. This one looks relaxing. I'll keep it for awhile.

Department of State to Introduce Passport Card

To meet the documentary requirements of the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI), the Department of State, in consultation with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), today announced and submitted for public comment a federal rule proposing the development of a card-format passport for international travel by U.S. citizens through land and sea ports of entry between the United States, Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Bermuda.
The limited-use passport card will be adjudicated to the same standards as a traditional passport book. The rule published today proposes a wallet-sized card that would cost $10 for children and $20 for adults, plus a $25 execution fee.

To facilitate the frequent travel of those living in U.S. border communities and those traveling on commercial maritime vessels, the Department of State has committed to producing a passport card that incorporates cutting-edge technology. The technology incorporated in the proposed card was designed in coordination with DHS specifically to address the operational needs of land border-crossings. The proposed passport card would use long-range, or vicinity, radio frequency identification (RFID) technology to link the card to a secure U.S. government database containing biographical data and a photograph. The card itself will not contain any personal information, and DHS will implement protections to keep the database secure.

The passport card is the core element of the PASS (People Access Security Service) System announced by Secretaries Rice and Chertoff in January 2006, and will secure and expedite travel to and from the United States.

Sticking Point - Seattle Times

According to the Seattle times...

England's Robbie Green became the first professional dart-thrower to flunk a drug test, drawing a 58-day suspension from the Darts Regulation Authority after testing positive for marijuana.

Officials suspected something was awry the moment he missed the bull's-eye on the specimen jar.
