Black Friday Shopping.

Today Z and I went Christmas shopping. We pretty much have every one done except maybe each other. We had a positive attitude and all the people we spent time with in line had a good positive attitude so it was a pleasant experience.

Our first stop was Ace Hardware wherer we bought some items on special, then on to Menards, and Kohls. Then we continued onto Half Price Books and onto Rainbow, Walgreens, and Cub foods for a few things for our refigerator.
Suppose that every day, ten men go out for beer and the bill for all ten comes to $100.

If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go some thing like this:The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing.The fifth would pay $1.The sixth would pay $3.The seventh would pay $7.The eighth would pay $12.The ninth would pay $18.The tenth man (the richest) would pay $59.

The ten men drank in the bar every day and seemed quite happy with the arrangement, until one day, the owner threw them a curve. 'Since you are all such good customers, he said, 'I'm going to reduce the cost of your daily beer by $20. Drinks for the ten now cost just $80.

The group still wanted to pay their bill the way we pay our taxes so the first four men were unaffected. They would still drink for free. But what about the other six men - the paying customers? How could they divide the $20 windfall so that everyone would get his 'fair share?'

They realized that $20 divided by six is $3.33. But, if they subtracted that from every body's share, then the fifth man and the sixth man would each end up being paid to drink his beer.So, the bar owner suggested that it would be fair to reduce each man's bill by roughly the same amount, and he proceeded to work out the amounts each should pay.And so:

The fifth man, like the first four, now paid nothing (100% savings).
The sixth now paid $2 instead of $3 (33%savings).
The seventh now paid $5 instead of $7 (28%savings).
The eighth now paid $9 instead of $12 (25% savings).
The ninth now paid $14 instead of $18 (22% savings).
The tenth now paid $49 instead of $59 (16% savings).

Each of the six was better off than before And the first four continued to drink for free. But, once outside the restaurant, the men began to compare their savings.'I only got a dollar out of the $20', declared the sixth man. He pointed to the tenth man, 'but he got $10!''Yeah, that's right', exclaimed the fifth man. 'I only saved a dollar,too. It's unfair that he gotten times more than I!''That's true!!' shouted the seventh man. 'Why should he get $10 back when I got only two? The wealthy get all the breaks!''Wait a minute,' yelled the first four men in unison. 'We didn't get anything at all.The system exploits the poor!'

The nine men surrounded the tenth and beat him up.The next night the tenth man didn't show up for drinks, so the nine sat down and had beers without him. But when it came time to pay the bill,they discovered something important.

They didn't have enough money between all of them for even half of the bill!And that, boys and girls , journalists and college professors, is how our tax system works. The people who pay the highest taxes get the most benefit from a tax reduction. Tax them too much, attack them for being wealthy, and they just may not show up anymore.

In fact, they might start drinking overseas where the atmosphere is somewhat friendlier.David R. Kamerschen, Ph.D.Professor of Economics, University of Georgia. For those who understand, no explanation is needed.For those who do not understand, no explanation is possible.

Our Mediterranean Cruise - Day 7 - PALERMO (SICILY)

Today we slept in until about 8:30 am, had breakfast in the Windjammer Cafe and headed out to explore Palermo, Sicily. We docked right at the pier and could walk off with shops and street vendors everywhere. This is the perfect atmosphere to negotiate for the best price. Zena is becoming quite good at this and even has perfected the art of "The Walk Away". We feel we have gotten some good deal thru this final technique. John even thinks we should employ one more technique after that by then saying, "No, now we offer 4 (one less than 5) for the bracelet!"

We have not gotten run over or hit by scooters or cars (yet) today. It is always a possibility yet as we are still many blocks from the ship. It has almost become a game to try to cross the road unscathed. Kind of like that Frogger game ;-)

Also, we have not been or seen anyone get pickpocketed yet, although we feel we were a definite target this morning as Zena noticed one guy following close by us, alone and turned the corner when we did. We ducked in to a coffee shop and enjoyed an espress and cappuccino for only 2.30 EURO and noticed him still hanging around outside. He was indeed stalking us. After a bit, he came in to the coffee shop. We decided to duck out and dash around a corner to loose our tail. It worked! To our good fortune it brought it right into a beautiful little shopping piazza. Ahhh, a chance to spend some more EUROs!

We strolled along for a little longer and came upon this internet cafe and decided to provide our update. More later, please check back.

Our Mediterranean Cruise - Day 6 - NAPLES

Today, we slept in until 7 or 8 am. Had a casual breakfast and wrote postcard to family. We brought them to the pursers desk to be mailed today.

We got off the ship and walked around Naples for a little while before our afternoon tour to Herculaneum.

Herculaneum ... the city buried by mud from Mount Vesuvius in 79AD at the same time as Pompeii got buried by ash. This was a little different, though, the people became decomposed and nothing was left but the bones. In Pompeii, the remains were hollowed out and filled with plaster showing their positions as they were when they suddenly died. About 300 bodies were found down by where the sea was when they were trying to escape the mud spewing thru the air and flowing down the mountain. What we saw was considered to be only one fifth of what the city size actually was. Around the excavation there is apartment buildings and other dwellings where people live now and refuse to move. The government is having a hard time acquiring this land to continue excavating the village. This was quite and exhausting tour as we climbed up and down on pebbly streets in and out ducking here and there thru passageways as we explored the dwellings made of stone and plaster.

Of course, the tour stopped along the way at a Cameo factory where we could see them being carved from shells by an old man as he artistically created cameo figures in the shells. Then, there was the shop to buy cameos.

Today is also our 15th Anniversary and we are going to bed at 9 pm!

Gotta run ... we will update when we get another chance...probably at the airport though, as the ships internet service is slower than 300 baud dial up! Ugh! Or, slower than molasses...

Stay tuned... tomorrow we will be in Sicily. Maybe we will even see some mafio as they are still quite active there.

Our Mediterranean Cruise - Day 5 - ROME

Marcio was our tour guide to see Rome in a luxurious 9 passenger van. We saw the Colisseum and toured inside. It was very cool. Then we went to see the Trevy(sp) Fountain and thru our coins in to make a wish. We saw the Spanish Steps and the Forum. We had lunch at a great restaurant that Marcio arranged for. Zena had authentic Italian Fettucini Alfredo and John had something with clams and pasta. Marcio bought us all a Lemoncello, hard lemony flavored Italian alcohol drink. It as fantastic and quite strong!

For the afternoon, we went on to the Vatican and toured it with a private tour guide. Our tour was for 2 hours and with 6 of us we were able to move in and out of the rooms easily without getting lost in the thousands who were there. We saw the Sistene Chapel, John prayed in a private chapel area, we saw the largest canvas oil painting in the world. We saw where the Pope lives but we did not get to go inside. As we left the St. Marks Cathedral, we walked right behind a Cardinal who was doing a press conference. All the mikes and cameras were on him. Zena told John to wave as maybe his mom would see him on tv behind the Cardinal. Unfortunately, mom and dad dont have cable, so they would get the POPE channel!

We saw the Swiss Guard outside and they were dressed rather like Jesters. They are not allowed to get married and have to be citizens of Switzerland. It is really prestigious to be a guard. Our guide told us that even though everyone who is a citizen of the Vatican City is quite religious, they all go out to the bars at night and whoop it up.

After dinner with our Canadian friends, we met up at the Pig & Whistle Pub again where John sang karoake twice! Everyone was tired and ready to go to bed to get ready for the next days activities.

We rushed back to the ship ... tomorrow ... Naples, Italy!

Our Mediterranean Cruise - Day 4 - FLORENCE, Italy

Today we went to Florence. We bought a bus ticket to get to the train station. From there we boarded our train to Florence. It was an hour and a half ride from the port. We just happened to bump in to our friends from Canada on the same car that we were sitting in. We met them on cruisecritic.com.

We booked a pass for the HOHO (hop on hop off) bus and took the blue route. We sat on top and used ear buds to listen to narration of the areas we drove in. We saw Duomo and town of Fiesole waaaaayyy up in the hills. We talked to a couple from Alaska who invited us up to visit and stay in his bed and breakfast. We talked politics, specifically Governor Palin. We also saw a little of the Palazzio Vecchio, Ponte Vecchio and the Porta S. Frediano. On the bus, Zena happened to mention, "what would be the chances of us seeing our new friends from Canada walking on the street below us as we cruised around." Not 2 minutes later as we slowed down, we glanced down and there they were at the same time the spotted us and called up to us! Crazy, twice in one day and we were pretty far away from the train terminal and they walked there. I guess it was karma.

We hopped off the bus at stop 3 and walked toward the terminal, stop 4. Along the way, we decided to enjoy a little lunch at a sidewalk cafe. We enjoyed cheese pizza, quarter bottle of vino, and Zena had a Coca Light. Then John mentioned, it would be completely awesome for us to meet us with our friends from Canada again. It would be like winning the lottery. I said that it would be a pretty slim chance that it would happen again! And then ... two minutes later up they all four walk right by our table eating gelatos. CRAZY KARMA! We agreed to meet back at the McDonalds in the train terminal to ride back to the bus station together.

John and I waited and waited for them to show up. We kept track of our train track number by watching the board and watching the clock. They did not show up so we decided to go without them and headed toward the train just minutes before it took off. We actually had to RUN FAST to catch the train as it started pulling out. We would have missed our train and the ship as it takes an hour and half to get back to from Florence!

In the evening, we crashed dinner at the early seating to meet up with Mo, Brian, Dave and Pat. After dinner, Zena and I went to the Welcome Back party for people who have cruised Royal Caribbean before. Once guy in the group has cruised RC more than 25 times! We danced some and drink free flowing champagne.

After champagne, we met the Canadians at the Pig & Whistle Pub, had another drink and called it a day at 10 pm. Tomorrow, Rome.

Our Mediterranean Cruise - Day 3 - FRANCE & MONACO

PORT: Villefranche, France
Nice, Eze, Monte Carlo, Monaco

Today we drove up to Eze, the oldest little town in the Med highest up overlooking everything for miles around. Im fussing on a keyboard that is very different than our own. Will fix errors later. We drove up to the Eagles Nest castle and had authentic French crepes in outdoor patio and had to climb many, many stone steps to get to it. We used the bathroom inside the cave area and to run water to wash your hands you had to step on a button on the floor. The room was so tiny, you had to slowly turn your body to maneuver around. It was very hard to just find the bathroom in the little room, the door was disguised and flush against the back wall. John walked out and noticed on the big screen they were playing Starsky & Hutch in French.

We walked along the French Riviera along the pebbly beach area. Many people were walking here with their dogs. Then we explored the local Market Place and tasted olives and salsa and saw many interesting wares.

We then drove on to Monaco and saw the castle where Princess Grace lived with Prince Rainier and also where she lay to rest. We saw the two homes side by side that her daughters own. Then we drove to the casino of the rich and famous, in Monte Carlo. We got to sneak past all the people waiting in a long line to get in because our guide got us a short cut. This casino wasnt all that interesting though because you had to be quiet the whole time. You are not allowed to shout out or get loud.

After the casino, we drove along the Grand Prix Racetrack area of the highway. They were doing some sort of Grand Prix race with scooters when we were there.

Our Mediterranean Cruise - Day 2 - Sat, Oct 11th, BARCELONA

We settled in to our cabin (6291 on the Promenade) and then we went to meet our http://www.cruisecritic.com/ people. For our official Meet & Mingle was in the High Note Bar, overlooking Barcelona. The group was a wild one. Everyone was in great spirits and so excited to meet each other and put a face and name to the usernames we were used to. They are a fun group. Royal Caribbean treated us well with gifts and drawings for our group.

We at dinner at the Windjammer buffet and had a dessert at the Cafe' in the Promenade and went to bed early, around 9:00 pm. We prepped our backpack and personal items so we could be ready to go early the next day. We were excited to be joining our group and going to Villefranche (France) and Monoco. Touring the Casino in Monte Carlo holds a bit of excitement, as well.

John woke early (around 2:00 am this time thinking it was time to get up). Zena had quite a bit of convincing to do get him to settle down and sleep some more. I guess he was still on Central Time!

Our Mediterranean Cruise - Day 1 - Fri, Oct 10th, THE FLIGHT

The flight over to Amsterdam didn't seem like 8 hours. We left Minneapolis around 3:15 pm, Friday. We had our own little monitor on the back of the seat in front of us to watch movies, play games, watch maps to see where we were in the route and more. John only got two hours of sleep during the 8 hour flight. Zena didn't get any. She intended to and felt she'd have no problem falling asleep - however she watched 3 movies, read and played games. She was WIDE AWAKE (I guess she and WE didn't have to worry about her snoring!).

Amsterdam airport was very easy to navigate. English signs were posted everywhere. There were a good number of restaurants and shops. The urinals in the mens bathroom even looked like a bowl. When Zena went to look at shops, she got lost and had to figure her way out to where I was waiting. The whole place had more of a feel of an American airport or a high-end mall.

Most of the people in the airport looked like they were dressed for an eclectic coffee shop. It was supposed to be only 2 1/2 hours in-between flights in Amsterdam to Barcelona, but we ended waiting another hour because the captains seat was not working correctly and they were waiting for a part to come in to fix it.

Arriving in Barcelona around 6:10 am (Saturday morning), we it was easy find our Royal Carribean representatives, even though most signs were only in Spanish (thank God for the study lessons in Spanish on CD)! We didn't have to go to baggage claim -- because, indeed, we did travel light. We each had only a carry-on and personal tote that we brought right on the plane. It's very nice not having to wait for baggage!

Financial Institution Bailout! Not a good idea - Different take.

Senator Charles Schumer suggested that government inject funds into financial companies in exchange for equity stakes and pledges to rewrite mortgages and make them more affordable. House Financial Services Committee Chairman Barney Frank, a Massachusetts Democrat, this week proposed Congress create a federal entity to buy bad loans. Senator Hillary Clinton of New York, a former candidate for the Democratic nomination for president, proposed resurrecting a 1930s-era agency to stem foreclosures. ``We need a modern day Home Owners' Loan Corporation,'' Clinton said in remarks at the Senate today. ``There will not be any semblance of a normal or orderly market'' without ``quarantining'' the devalued loans outstanding, she said. (Taken fromhttp://robertreich.blogspot.com/2008/09/bailout-of-all-bailouts-is-bad-idea.html)

There are many people who are against this bailout because they feel that the fat cat CEOs of failed companies shouldn't get out of the mess they created. That the Federal government would end up buying assets for about 50 cents on the dollar that is only worth 20 cents. New home construction is very slow because there are too many homes and not enough buyers. These people believe that these companies gotten into this mess and only the invisible hand of economics should correct it.

Others think that without this bailout things would go from bad to worse. The pipeline of credit will continue to stopped up and constipated. Banks wouldn't lend money to each other money wouldn't be available to business for start up and expansion, money for home mortgages and consumer loans will tighten up. The Bail out would allow the Federal government slowly get these assets back into the economy at a value greater than they were purchased from the failing banks.

I see a more long term picture. I think these factors are insignificant to what is happening and more importantly is going to happen during next 20 years. See, I look more at the future of the population of the United States. There is a transition that's going to happen where the largest population is going to leave the work force and go into retirement. There is an estimated 80 million Americans born between 1946 and 1964 that are at this time just beginning to enter into retirement.

According to: http://calculatedrisk.blogspot.com/2008/01/employment-population-ratio-and.html
There has been a steady trend of a rising employment-population ratio since 1960. This is mostly due to more women joining the work force. It is very possible that this underlying trend is now flat, or even declining slightly, as the baby boomers start to leave the work force. Recessions happen when the working population decreases. See chart at: http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_pMscxxELHEg/R5BBOVX1mlI/AAAAAAAABes/_l5BkxEr-jE/s1600-h/EmployPopRatio.jpg

First as more of the Baby Boomers leave the workforce the economy growth in the United States will either slow or decline. Recessions would be more common as groups of Baby Boomers leave the work force.

So how to the Baby Boomers effect the credit market? As people age in retirement, many of them think about down sizing their living arrangements. Retirement communities where they have to do little maintain a home. This means leaving that big home for a smaller home where all the outside maintenance can be taken care of through association dues. Millions of retiring Baby boomers will move in this direction. Large American houses will continue to drop in price because the next generation (Generation X) will not be a large enough population and wealthy enough to occupy them all. We might even see many low end starter homes get torn down because of lack of demand. The value of those town down homes would be written off.

By doing this bail out we are just making the pain last until the next housing market crisis ramps up again over the next 20 years. We should not do this bailout because we will get through this quicker and be prepared for the baby Boomer Recession(s) that's going to happen over the next 20 years.

Another worthy person lost to the bogus global foot print scam.

During the World War II German occupation of Poland, Irena Sendler lived in Warsaw (prior to that, she lived in Otwock and Tarczyn) while working for urban Social Welfare Departments. As early as 1939, when the Germans invaded Poland, she began helping Jews by offering them food and shelter. Irena and her helpers created over 3,000 false documents to help Jewish families, prior to joining the organized resistance of Å»egota and the children's division. Helping Jews was very risky—in German-occupied Poland, all household members risked a death sentence if they were found to be hiding any Jews. This punishment was more severe than those applied in other occupied European countries.
In December 1942, the newly created Children's Section of the Żegota (Council for Aid to Jews), nominated her (under her cover name Jolanta) to head its children's department. As an employee of the Social Welfare Department, she had a special permit to enter the Warsaw Ghetto, to check for signs of typhus, something the Nazis feared would spread beyond the ghetto. During the visits, she wore a Star of David as a sign of solidarity with the Jewish people and so as not to call attention to herself.

She cooperated with the Children's Section of the Municipal Administration, linked with the RGO (Central Welfare Council), a Polish Relief Organization tolerated under German supervision. She organized the smuggling of Jewish children from the Ghetto, carrying them out in boxes, suitcases and trolleys. Under the pretext of conducting inspections of sanitary conditions during a typhoid outbreak, Sendler visited the ghetto and smuggled out babies and small children in ambulances and trams, sometimes disguising them as packages. She also used the old courthouse of the edge of the Warsaw Ghetto (still standing) as one of the main routes of smuggling children out. The children were placed with Polish families, the Warsaw orphanage of the Sisters of the Family of Mary or Roman Catholic convents such as the Sisters Little Servants of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Mary at Turkowice and Chotomów. Some were smuggled to priests in parish rectories where they could be further hidden. She hid lists of their names in jars, in order to keep track of their original and new identities. Żegota assured the children that, when the war was over, they must be returned to Jewish relatives.

In 1943, Sendler was arrested by the Gestapo, severely tortured, and sentenced to death. Żegota saved her by bribing German guards on the way to her execution. She was left in the woods, unconscious and with broken arms and legs. She was listed on public bulletin boards as among those executed. For the remainder of the war, she lived in hiding, but continued her work for the Jewish children. After the war, she dug up the jars containing the children's identities and began an attempt to find the children and return them to living parents. However, almost all the children's parents had died at the Treblinka extermination camp.

In 2007, considerable publicity accompanied a nomination of Sendler for the Nobel Peace Prize. Although failed nominees for the award are not publicly announced by the Nobel organization for 50 years, this publicity focused a spotlight upon Sendler and her wartime contribution. The 2007 award, however, was presented to Al Gore, former Vice President of the United States, and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
Al Gore won, for doing a slide show on Global Warming.

Dixie December 15, 1994 to August 4, 2008

Tonight we had to put our Dixie Doodle to sleep. She just wasn't getting along well and it was time. Both Z and I are very sad that we have to put her down. She had been a great companion and pet. We will miss her wiggling and barking demanding to be fed. We will miss her demanding to protect the yard from rabbits and squirrels as well as other dogs and people that approach the fence. Zena, Dixie and I enjoyed going on the road trip to northern Wisconsin.

Please her blog at: http://itsallaboutdixie.blogspot.com/

How many zeros in a billion?
This is too true to be funny. The next time you hear a politician use the word 'billion' in a casual manner, think about whether you want the 'politicians' spending! YOUR tax money.

A billion is a difficult number to comprehend,But one advertising agency did a good job of putting that figure into some perspective in one of its releases.
A. A billion seconds ago it was 1959. B. A billion minutes ago Jesus was alive. C. A billion hours ago our ancestors were living in the Stone Age. D. A billion days ago no-one walked on the earth on two feet. E. A billion dollars ago was only 8 hours and 20 Minutes, at the rate our government is spending it.

While this thought is still fresh in our brain...
let's take a look at New Orleans ...
It's amazing what you can learn with some simple division.

Louisiana Senator,
Mary Landrieu (D)
is presently asking Congress for
250 BILLION DOLLARS
to rebuild New Orleans . Interesting number...
what does it mean?

A. Well... if you are one of the 484,674 residents of New Orleans (every man, woman, and child) you each get $516,528.
B. Or... if you have one of the 188,251 homes in New Orleans , your home gets $1,329,787.
C. Or... if you are a family of four... your family gets $2,066,012.

Can you spell 'politicians!' And I still have to press '1' for English. I hope this goes around the USA at least 100 times What the heck happened?????

Are Democrat Leaders Aliens? Hmmm...

Many of you will recall that on July 8, 1947, nearly 60 years ago, witnesses claim that an unidentified flying object (UFO) with five alien aboard crashed onto a sheep and cattle ranch just outside Roswell , New Mexico. This is a well-known incident that many say has long been covered up by the U.S. Air Force and other federal agencies and organizations.

However, what you may NOT know is that in the month of March 1948, nine months after that historic day, the following people were born:

  • Albert A. Gore, Jr.
  • Hillary Rodham
  • John F. Kerry
  • William J. Clinton
  • Howard Dean
  • Nancy Pelosi
  • Dianne Feinstein
  • Charles E. Schumer
  • Barbara Boxer

See what happens when aliens breed with sheep? I certainly hope this bit of information clears up a lot of things for you. It did for me.

Here is a Picture of my car

I noticed up to now that I hadn't ever posted a picture of my car.

Mathematical proof that there is no “climate crisis”

WASHINGTON (7-15-08)- Mathematical proof that there is no “climate crisis” appears today in a major, peer-reviewed paper in Physics and Society, a learned journal of the 10,000-strong American Physical Society, SPPI reports.The American Physical Society was founded in 1899 and is the world's second largest organization of physicists, behind the Deutsche Physikalische Gesellschaft. The Society publishes more than a dozen science journals, including the world renowned Physical Review and Physical Review Letters, and organizes more than twenty science meetings each year. Over 40,000 members belong to the Society.Christopher Monckton, who once advised Margaret Thatcher, demonstrates via 30 equations that computer models used by the UN’s climate panel (IPCC) were pre-programmed with overstated values for the three variables whose product is “climate sensitivity” (temperature increase in response to greenhouse-gas increase), resulting in a 500-2000% overstatement of CO2’s effect on temperature in the IPCC’s latest climate assessment report, published in 2007. Climate Sensitivity Reconsidered [http://www.aps.org/units/fps/newsletters/200807/index.cfm] demonstrates that later this century a doubling of the concentration of CO2 compared with pre-industrial levels will increase global mean surface temperature not by the 6 °F predicted by the IPCC but, harmlessly, by little more than 1 °F. Lord Monckton concludes –
“… Perhaps real-world climate sensitivity is very much below the IPCC’s estimates. Perhaps, therefore, there is no ‘climate crisis’ at all. … The correct policy approach to a non-problem is to have the courage to do nothing.”Larry Gould, Professor of Physics at the University of Hartford and Chair (2004) of the New England Section of the American Physical Society (APS), has been studying climate-change science for four years. He said:
“I was impressed by an hour-long academic lecture which criticized claims about ‘global warming’ and explained the implications of the physics of radiative transfer for climate change. I was pleased that the audience responded to the informative presentation with a prolonged, standing ovation. That is what happened when, at the invitation of the President of our University, Christopher Monckton lectured here in Hartford this spring. I am delighted that Physics and Society, an APS journal, has published his detailed paper refining and reporting his important and revealing results.‘
“To me the value of this paper lies in its dispassionate but ruthlessly clear exposition – or, rather, exposé – of the IPCC’s method of evaluating climate sensitivity. The detailed arguments in this paper, and, indeed, in a large number of other scientific papers, point up extensive errors, including numerous projection errors of climate models, as well as misleading statements by the IPCC. Consequently, there are no rational grounds for believing either the IPCC or any other claims of dangerous anthropogenic ‘global warming’.”Lord Monckton’s paper reveals that –
The IPCC’s 2007 climate summary overstated CO2’s impact on temperature by 500-2000%;
CO2 enrichment will add little more than 1 °F (0.6 °C) to global mean surface temperature by 2100;
Not one of the three key variables whose product is climate sensitivity can be measured directly;
The IPCC’s values for these key variables are taken from only four published papers, not 2,500;
The IPCC’s values for each of the three variables, and hence for climate sensitivity, are overstated;
“Global warming” halted ten years ago, and surface temperature has been falling for seven years;
Not one of the computer models relied upon by the IPCC predicted so long and rapid a cooling;
The IPCC inserted a table into the scientists’ draft, overstating the effect of ice-melt by 1000%;
It was proved 50 years ago that predicting climate more than two weeks ahead is impossible;
Mars, Jupiter, Neptune’s largest moon, and Pluto warmed at the same time as Earth warmed;
In the past 70 years the Sun was more active than at almost any other time in the past 11,400 years.

Canadian farmer, Osama bin Laden and a Texan...

Three men - a Canadian farmer, Osama bin Laden and a Texan are all working
together one day.They come across a lantern and a Genie pops out of it.

"I will give each on you one wish, which is three wishes in total", says the
Genie.The Canadian says, "I am a farmer and my son also farmS. I want the land to
be forever fertile in Canada ."POOF! With the blink of the Genie's eye, the land in Canada was forever fertile for farming.

Osama was amazed, so he said, "I want a wall around Afghanistan , Palestine ,
Iraq and Iran so that no infidels, Americans or Canadians can come in our our
precious land." POOF! Again, with the blink of the Genie's eye, there was a huge wall around those countries.

The Texan says, "I am very curious. Please tell me more about this wall."
The Genie explains, "Well, it's about 5,000 feet high, 500 feet thick and
completely surrounds the country. Nothing can get in or out; it's virtually
impenetrable."

The Texan sits down, cracks a beer, smiles, and says, "Fill it with water."

Trend Micro Installation - No problem any more!

I decided to NOT install Trend Micro Internet Security Pro in the Dell laptop computer. I have spent way too much time dealing with the company and the software. I have put in over eight hours trying to install the software chatting with the Customer Service Reps through a chat area and and talking to their "Engineers" A software company shouldn't take 7 days plus days to figure out how to install their software.

It was a waste of money. What ended up doing is installing a totally different virus detection program Avira that was FREE.

If anyone asked me what Virus detection program that I would recommend I'll say, "NOT ANYTHING FROM TREND MICRO!!!

Trend Micro Installation problem.

So the guy from Trend Micro asked me to do this:

"Please send a screen shot of your problems, and, or error messages ( if any ) to further explain your inquiry. Through this screenshot, I believe I will be able to properly assess the situation, and give a proper prognosis.
--- Steps on how to get a screen shot ---
1. Press Print Screen. The Print Screen button is somewhere on the
upper right hand corner of your keyboard
(Considering your are using a US/International/QWERTY keyboard.
The position of the Print Screen may or may not be in other
locations of your keyboard if you are using another type.)
2. Paste it on a new image using any image editing tool you have,
like Windows Paint Brush or Adobe Photoshop, via
CTRL+V or by going to the EDIT MENU of your image editing tool,
and selecting PASTE.
3. Please kindly save the picture as a JPEG file, or Bitmap file ( Jpeg preferred ).
4. Attach the picture to the next E-mail that will be forwarded to me."

I responded with, "You wouldn't get any errors noted on that screen print. When I start the installation program, the install appears for just a second and then disappears. At that point it doesn't install the program."

Trend Micro Internet Security Pro

Its the next day and I haven't heard fro the customer service engineer that was looking at my computers HiJack this log.

Trend Micro Internet Security Pro

For those considering purchasing Trend Micro Internet Security Pro for a Dell Computer running Vista SP1 - DON'T.

I spent 2 hours on Friday July 4th 2008, 2 hours on Sunday July 6th and and 1 hour on Monday July 7th and tonight I'm on the phone with them again trying to install the program. I call one number (1-800-864-6027) tonight and got referred to another number (1.866-722-4554 opt 2) then that CS rep referred be back to (1-800-864-6027). I have been on the phone for 1 hour 15 minutes waiting for an engineer. I called the number again and took another option and got through to a representaive. After dealing with him for about 45 minutes we ran Hijack This and then I sent him the log so he could analize the information and get back to me.

At this point I wouldn't recommend buying Trend Micro Internet Security Pro for any computer and especially for the Dell computers operating Windows Vista SP1.

Apparently I'm not the only one having trouble with TM see: http://forums.techarena.in/showthread.php?t=986679

I'm getting very disappointed with this company and if I don't get decent resolve I plan on telling every one I know what poor products they produce and the poor customer service TM provides.

Biofuels not the answer for our cravings for the combustion automobile.

Food Versus Fuel: By using more bio fuels yes it would lower the price of fossil fuels but by creating more demand for corn and other crops it would raise the prices of our food worldwide.

In just one year.

Remember the election in 2006? Thought you might like to read the following:

A little over one year ago:

  1. Consumer confidence stood at a 2 1/2 year high;
  2. Regular gasoline sold for $2.19 a gallon;
  3. The unemployment rate was 4.5%.

Since voting in a Democratic Congress in 2006 we have seen:

  1. Consumer confidence plummet;
  2. The cost of regular gasoline soar to over $3.50 a gallon;
  3. Unemployment is up to 5% (a 10% increase);
  4. American households have seen $2.3 trillion in equity value evaporate (stock and mutual fund losses);
  5. Americans have seen their home equity drop by $1.2 trillion dollars;
  6. 1% of American homes are in foreclosure.
America voted for change in 2006, and we got it! Remember its Congress that makes law not the President. He has to work with what's handed to him.Quote of the Day........"My friends, we live in the greatest nation in the history of the world. I hope you'll join with me as we try to change it." Barack Obama

Taxes...Whether Democrat or a Republican you will find these statistics enlightening and amazing.http://www.%20taxfoundation.%20org/publications/show/151.%20html

Taxes under Clinton 1999 ---- Taxes under Bush 2008
Single making 30K - tax $8,400 ---- Single making 30K - tax $4,500
Single making 50K - tax $14,000 ---- Single making 50K - tax $12,500
Single making 75K - tax $23,250 ---- Single making 75K - tax $18,750
Married making 60K - tax $16,800 ---- Married making 60K- tax $9,000
Married making 75K - tax $21,000 ---- Married making 75K - tax $18,750
Married making 125K - tax $38,750 ---- Married making 125K - tax $31,250

Both democratic candidates will return to the higher tax ratesIt is amazing how many people that fall into the categories above think Bush is screwing them and Bill Clinton was the greatest President ever. If Obama or Hillary is elected, they both say they will repeal the Bush tax cuts and a good portion of the people that fall into the categories above can't wait for it to happen. This is like the movie The Sting with Paul Newman; you scam somebody out of some money and they don't even know what happened.You think the war in Iraq is costing us too much?

Read this: Boy am I confused. I have been hammered with the propaganda that it is the Iraq war and the war on terror that is bankrupting us.I now find that to be RIDICULOUS.

I hope the following 14 reasons are forwarded over and over again until they are read so many times that the reader gets sick of reading them.

High Flyers Vs Black Dawg

Tonight we played against the High Flyers. We won 6 and lost 6 games. I shot a 3.13 Marks Per Round (MPR), Tom shot a 1.77 MPR, Kelly shot a 1.69 and Roxie shot 1.13.

The team is sitting in 4th place out of 6 teams. Oh well.

The 3.13 MPR would put me a head of Kivi and Hoot for ranking 3rd in league play for this season.

Black Dawg vs Bad in Black

Tonight we won 8 and lost 4 against Bad in Black. I shot an average of 2.75 MPR; Kelly averaged 1.59; Tom 2.02 and Roxie 1.39. Tom had one game over 4 MPR.

April Fly Fishing Notes...

This morning I was planning on doing a little Fly Fishing at the Vermilion River in Farmington. Last night the weather reports stated that It was going to be around 30 degrees F and north winds 15 to 20 mph with a chance of precipitation 50 percent.

I decided to sit out fishing for today It's a little to windy and cold for the first time out.

Thursday may be a good opportunity. It is for casted to get up to 60 degrees. Dan from work may join me and I called Suzie S. (one of Zena's friends who fly fishes) and she is available Thursday morning. I'll be meeting her at 7:30 on Thursday at the Rambling River Park in Farmington.

Goldielocks and Three Men Vs Black Dawg

Tonight we played against the team Goldie Locks and Three Men. We win 5 and lost 7 of our games. I shot a 2.61 Marks Per Round (MPR), Kelly shot 1.4 MPR, Tom shot 1.71 MPR and Eric, who was substituting for Roxy shot 1.84 MPR.

Tom will get the most improved player this week.

March Snow

In the darkness there outside it snows,
It falls silently throughout the plane.

Quiet all except for the train horn,
the land becomes white all the same.

The trees will become heavy with snow
stacked on their branches.

branches so burdened and low.
Snow high on roofs and fences.

To watch I stopped and paused,
the air is thick with snow, each flake is thick.
It seems so silent without a cause
so quiet I hear my wristwatch tick.

Oh I sense the wind will follow.
I can just hear the the Whoooosh
The wind will be through the hollows
to release the trees from their burden of clods.

I bought a bird Feeder...

Here is an e-mail I received from my sister today.

I bought a bird feeder. I hung it on my back porch and filled it lovingly with seed. It was indeed a beautiful bird feeder.

Within a week we had hundreds of birds taking advantage of the continuous flow of free and easily accessible food. But then the birds started building nests in the boards of the patio, above the table, and next to the barbecue. Then came the bird poop. It was everywhere; on the patio tile, the chairs, the table...
everywhere!

Then some of the birds turned mean. They would dive bomb me and try to peck me even though I had fed them out of my own pocket. And others birds were boisterous and loud. They sat on the feeder and squawked and screamed at all hours of the day and night and demanded that I fill it
when it got low on food.

After a while, I couldn't even sit on my own back porch anymore. So I took down the bird feeder and in three days the birds were gone. I cleaned up their mess and took down the many nests they had built all over the patio. Soon, the back yard was like it used to be .. quiet, serene
and no one demanding their rights to a free meal. Now let's see ....

Our government gives out free food, subsidized housing, free medical care, and free education and allows anyone born here to be an automatic citizen. Then the illegals came by the millions. Suddenly our taxes went up to pay for free services; small apartments are housing 5 or more families; you have to wait 6 hours to be seen by a doctor in an emergency room because it is filled with illegals; your child's 2nd grade class is behind other schools because over half the class doesn't speak English.

Corn Flakes now come in a bilingual box; I have to 'press one' to hear my bank talk to me in English, and people waving flags other than 'Old Glory' are squawking and screaming
in the streets, demanding more rights and free liberties.

It's just my opinion but: maybe, just maybe, it's time for the government to take down the bird feeder. If you agree, pass it on; if not, continue cleaning up the poop.

Black Dawg Vs High Flyers

No it's not my mistake. Lonnie through a scheduling issue on Superbowl Sunday was SNAFUed.

We went 6 wins and 6 losses. I shot a 2.39 MPR and Tom did well for himself and shot 1.71 MPR.
Tom made Most Improved player this week with the nights avgerage of 1.71 MPR with his season average of 1.61!

Lonnie's team went 2 wins and 10 losses so we are one game behind Lonnie's team. We ar still in fourh place. We play Lonnie's team this Sunday. If we do well we can move up in the rankings. Tom and I think we have a good chance of beating them.

The applications for protesting the National RNC Convention

On the news today they were talking about a group of protesters that were looking to protest the war in Iraq during the Republican National Convention. I was wondering since there were Democrats that voted for the war, are the protesters going to have a protest event at the Democratic National Convention?

High Flyers against Black Dawg

Tonight our team Black Dawg played against the High Flyers. We won 5 and lost 7. I shot a night average of 2.51 Marks Per Round. I won 4 of our 5 wins.

Back Dawg Vs Goldielocks and Three Dirty Old Men

Tonight our team, Black Dawg, played against Goldielocks and Three Dirty Old Men. We won 3 and lost 9 of our match. I shot a 2.72 marks per round (MPR). One game I shot over 5.00 MPR. I just might get most improved player this week.

I thought that Nellie was going to be able to sub for us tonight for some reason he couldn't make it, and we got Charlie to fill in.

My current average is 2.38 MPR

Concord Bar gone back on their word.

Friday night we had a dart tournament at the Concord Bar and grill in South St. Paul MN.

Even though the bar advertises in the in the Night Times newspaper, Lonnie and I invited the dart players we knew, set up the tournament, brought the brackets, collected the money and ran the tournament.

The Concord Bar staff did nothing and has never done anything to orchestrate the tournament. This tournament won't happen unless Lonnie and I are there and that's not going to happen soon since the owner said he would match the prize money, and later didn't match it! NOT DART A FRIENDLY BAR!!!

So there is some work being done to find a location for future dart tournaments. Maybe Draks Pub in Inver Grove Heights would match money for a dart tournament. Lonnie is looking into it.

Nellie and I took 1st Place at our Last tournamment at the Concord Bar

There about 6 of us guys and the rest of the people in the tournament were women that were spending the weekend at the hotel for a bowling tournament at Wells lanes in South St Paul.

There were about 8 women at the bar who joined our tournament. Three or four of them also play in a dart league in Savage.

Nellie, who was my partner, is a machinist who is also an avid Dart player. Don't be fooled Nellie is actually a nickname for this guy.

PDC World Championship Darts 2008 Video Game

They say, "It might just be the best darts game ever, but that isn’t saying much"
Read the full review at: http://nintendoworldreport.com/reviewArt.cfm?artid=15353

What has been said about this game: Final Score (Not an average): 4.0
The ubiquitous sense of low production values will probably discourage even the most hardcore darts fans.

One thing one a customer of mine learned from being married.

I was talking to a customer this afternoon and he was telling me about this kitchen remodel and how he was going to use a tool that he was buying to help him get it done. He told me that he has to get it done or he was going to get into trouble with his wife. He said, "One thing I learned about being married is that you can have countless black belts in martial arts, be the best at marksmanship with guns, and be the burliest, baddest guy, but when you go to bed your wife still has eight hours to kill you."

Here for Beer 5 Blackdawg 7

Tonight we won 7 games against the team named Here for Beer. I shot a 2.21 Marks Per Round (MPR). Dan shot a 1.75 MPR.

RNC POSTS NEW WEB VIDEO: "PROTECT AMERICA ALERT"
Today the RNC released a new web video, titled "Protect America Alert." The video highlights Congressional Democrats' failure to permanently update America's 30-year-old terrorist surveillance law, the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA). In 2007, Senators Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, and Harry Reid all voted against providing our nation's intelligence community with the vital tools it needs to track and fight potential terrorists. Three Republician Candidates for Minnesota House of Representative District 37B

There are three Republician canditates for the Minnesota House of Representatives for District 37B. We have Judy Lindsay, Deb Kaczmarek and Dave Ganfield. All three are trying to win Dennis Ozment's seat.

High Flyers VS Black Dawg

This afternoon we played against the High Flyers. We won 7 and lost 5. That would make us tied with them.

Fly Fishing Questions

Question: What is the relationship between the Leader, Tippet and the Fly Sizes? Is there some sort of equation to match them?
Answer: See
http://www.landbigfish.com/flyfishing/leaderformulas.cfm - Looking at the chart of Tippett sizes having spools of Tippet naterial in 0X, 2X, 4X, and 6X gives the most flexability in the range of flys to use.

Question: What are the prime spawning locations for trout?

Question: When is the prime spawning time i.e Spring, Summer, fall or what months?
Answer: For Brook Trout (Salvelinus fontinalis), I believe that the answer to both of these questions can be answered at:

Still looking for information on other types of trout i.e. Rainbows and Browns.

Black Dawg VS Bad In Black

Tonight we won 6 and Lost 6 against Bad in Black. I shot a 2.2 MPR and Tom shot a 2.1 MPR. At halftime we had won only 2 and lost 4. They won by pointing up the game so, after that we pointed up the games against them and won them at their own game.So far for the season, we are still 6 games ahead of them.

Lonnie played the High Flyers and said that he got cleaned up. Being we were only two games behind of the High Flyers, it looks like we moved from third place to fourth place. We'll find out the official stats tomorrow.

Ribs and Darts at Rosemount VFW

Tonight Z and I met Connie at the Rosemount VFW for their rib dinner. For $5 you can get a simple rib dinner with coleslaw and a roll. This is only on the the fourth Friday of the month. On the third Friday they have a $8 steak fry.

After dinner I played some darts with Charlie, Pat and some other guy (sorry I can't remember his name). Charlie throws darts like Montana. He throws overhand like pitching a baseball.

I talked to Pat awhile, and he wants me to join the VFW Monday night Dart League. It's not sanctioned but it is a handicap league.

Though it would be fun, I would like to be a little more flexible and just play additional dart games not in a league, but with either casually or in bar tournaments. One league is enough for now. I would like to play in at least six bar tournaments a year.

Black Dawg VS Goldielocks And 3 Men

Tonight we won 3 games and lost 9. I shot a 2.46 Marks per Round (MPR).

Flight Home

Here we are on our flight home. Friday night we went to the Stratosphere Casino. We saw The show American Legends, had the buffet and had a drink at the top of the Stratosphere Tower. Zena had a hot brandy water because her throat was bothering her and I had a Vodka Martini, straight up. Connie had a Diet Coke and Zoey had a bottled water. Drinks are high priced there but it's a cool thing to do for the view. It was about $25 for all of our drinks.

Saturday (yesterday) we slept until 11 AM and then drove around town. We went to the Paris Casino and went up the 1/2 scale version of the Eiffel Tower. From there we could see the water show at the Bellagio. We then went to the Wynn and had a drink at the bar.

I'm kind of hungry. Nothing for breakfast except yogurt and Cracker Jacks. I'm eagerly waiting for the hot sandwich they'll be serving us here on the plane. Z and I will have alot of work ahead after this trade show. We'll have lots of filing and purging to do once the manufacturer catalogs start coming in.

PPAI - Second Day

The PPAI show has over 4000 booths and only three days to see them all. I had found this big chair to sit in awhile to rest my feet. Cliff is sitting behind me the right.

PPAI Trade Show - First Day

Today Z, Zoey, Cliff and I went to the first day of the PPAI (Promotional Products Association International) trade show. This morning was the fashion show. The big hubbub about the fashion show is that apparel is now being designed to fit women more. In the old days a woman would have to just wear a polo shirt that is cut for a mans bod. Now polo shirt and other women's clothing in the promotional products industry is no women's clothing with a company logo on it.

Grand Canyon

For some reason this morning there are three steak and egg breakfasts in our fridge this morning. Cliff must have left them there.

Yesterday we took a drive over the Hoover Dam towards the Grand Canyon. The water in Lake Mead is about 100 feet low.
The Grand Canyon was spectacular. The Indians that control the area charge $20 per vehicle for parking, $29 for the tour and another $29 for the Sky Walk and an additional $8.40 in taxes and fees. The Hualapai Legacy tour is a rip off. It's a dozen tee pees that were falling apart on a self guided tour. The view from the Sky Walk wasn't as good as Guano Point. I'd recommend skipping the Sky Walk and just see the view from Guano Point.
The picture show me standing next to Cliff. He's waving!

The Sky Walk Bridge is made of a composite glass. I call it the glass bridge to nowhere. You can walk out on it and come back to where you started. The Infinity Room at the House on the Rock is way better.

I believe the Haulapai Indians are putting in a hotel and casino at Eagle Point. That would further ruin the pristine area.

Vegas Baby!

Yesterday Zoe, Cliff Z and I flew into Vegas and spent some time before check in at the casinos downtown. Zoe won $175 at a slot machine. I parlayed $21 into $78 at a Craps table at Binions casino.

Just For Beer VS Black Dawg.

Since the fall our team is called Black Dawg. Kelly L called me tonight and tole me in my absence that our team went 11 wins and 1 loss. She was really happy about it. I'm glad she call to tell me how the team did.

Las Vegas

Today we are in Las Vegas NV.

"The City Than Never Sleeps" and they say "What Happens in Las Vegas Stays in Las Vegas!" I love this town. There is an incredible amount of flashiness in Vegas. Their whole economy depends on the tourists. Tourist come here to gamble and to convention. The people that live here either work o the casinos or work to support the casinos or are in construction. Casino workers make their living on tips from the tourists. Everyone looking for a buck or two with their hand ready to take the cash.

The casino owners wring their hands in anticipation of the losers cash. The tourist's only hop o just compensation is to make the big win or get comped. Casinos give comps to all who know the ins and outs of the comp system.

Outside the city limits there is nothing but mountains sage brush and Joshua trees. It is so unnatural in Vega that the palm trees that exist herein front of casinos are not indigenous to this area.
